CCP Studios Unveils Epic Poem Tome Made from Players’ Blood: A Medieval Masterpiece Commemorating EVE Online

At the end of this year's EVE Fanfest , CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar PĂ©tursson stepped forward to reveal an unexpected tribute to the enduring science fiction MMORPG: A grand saga composed in the vein of traditional Icelandic poetry, inscribed onto real vellum using—and this is where it gets astonishing—the blood of EVE Online players. And yes, let me emphasize, they would distribute it at no cost.

'Foreverness' is what we can’t stop thinking about," stated PĂ©tursson. "Apparently, one effective method for storing information involves using blood to inscribe texts on calfskin. This practice was common in Iceland over a millennium ago, and some of these manuscripts still survive today.

During the start of the convention, CCP announced a new initiative: publishing an anthology of epic poetry aimed at encapsulating significant events, concepts, and motifs from EVE’s player-generated narrative. The “Foundational Poem” will be curated by Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason, drawing inspiration from numerous global poetic traditions with assistance from his network of collaborating poets.

During the concluding event, PĂ©tursson delved into several exclusive limited-edition versions of the piece that definitely won’t be up for sale. The company CCP plans to produce a yet-to-be-decided quantity of these medieval-styled manuscripts with assistance from someone skilled in this technique. “These artists primarily served the Pope and the British Empire,” joked PĂ©tursson. “However, nowadays they’ll be working for our side.”

We plan to place one of the books at the [Icelandic Manuscript Museum] Arnastofnun alongside the sagas," PĂ©tursson went on. "After that, we’ll position another somewhere like the Pyramids, the Library of Congress, or perhaps elsewhere. We will decide on the exact location later.

EVE fans can purchase a regular version of the epic poem for their personal spaces, but CCP also intends to allow them to create one. very Direct contributions to the archival copies.

Petursson stated, 'We plan to have the Blood Bank of Iceland present at the upcoming Fanfest. You can contribute blood to support their cause, but each participant will give a small amount which we’ll collect. We’ll blend all these samples together and utilize them as inspiration for writing poems.'

The upcoming Fanfest for EVE is set for May 2026, giving you plenty of time—about a year—to maintain proper hydration, ensure adequate iron levels, and steer clear of any bothersome blood-related ailments if you want your vital fluids to be featured in the prime-time adaptation of EVE’s Essential Epic.

This is not the initial occasion where CCP has put significant efforts into honoring both the game and its player base. In honor of EVE’s tenth anniversary, the studio commissioned a monument At Reykjavik's harbor, where the names of all EVE players have been inscribed, an additional segment was introduced featuring newer members to commemorate the game’s 20th anniversary.

Aside from EVE Online, which is getting a new expansion called Legion set for release on May 27, CCP is simultaneously developing another project. sister FPS, Vanguard If this idea seems recognizable, it’s due to Vanguard being CCP's follow-up effort toward achieving some of the goals set forth by their troubled, PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter, Dust 514. Additionally, CCP is working on this project. EVE Frontier , a trial-and-error driven, survival-centric space game that takes a bold stance on player-created modifications.
