EVANSVILLE — Darla Hoover has been chosen as the new superintendent for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.
On Monday evening, the EVSC school board appointed Hoover as the next superintendent to succeed David Smith, who will retire on June 30. Currently serving as the EVSC’s Chief of Schools and Instructional Core, Hoover has prior experience as a teacher, department head, assistant principal, and high school principal within the same district.
She will become the first woman to serve as superintendent in the history of EVSC.
The EVSC school board members initially stated that throughout their search for a replacement for Smith, they would refrain from announcing the names of the candidates vying for the position. According to them, they wouldn’t reveal the identity of the chosen superintendent to everyone until after voting had taken place and hiring decisions were made.
In late April, The Courier & Press discovered that the school board was in talks with one candidate to replace Smith — however, this information originated Steve Horton, who serves as the director of board services for the Indiana School Boards Association, Horton was assisting with organizing the nationwide school board search.
