GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) — The Mesa County authorities are informing homeowners of certain beneficial property tax exemptions available to them.
The senior property tax exemption applies to individuals aged 65 and above who have resided in their homes for a minimum of ten years. You could be eligible for this senior homestead exemption. The exemption has the potential to cut 50 percent from the initial $200,000 of your home’s valuation, often equating to roughly a $500 reduction in your property taxes.
The veteran property tax exemption can be claimed by veterans with a 100% service-related disability rating or those deemed unemployable by the VA. This benefit does not require applicants to meet specific age limits or have lived in their home for a certain period. Additionally, gold star spouses—widow(er)s of service personnel killed during active duty—are eligible as well.
Seniors need to submit their applications by July 15th, whereas veterans have to do so by July 1st.
