FedEx Unveils Leadership for Upcoming Company Split

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – FedEx has named new leaders for FedEx Freight as the division prepares to become an independent entity shortly.

The large shipping company declared in December that it plans to dividing FedEx Freight into its own independently traded corporation.

John A. Smith is slated to become the president and CEO of FedEx Freight, with R. Brand Martin appointed as the chairman of the board.

Currently, Smith holds the position of chief operating officer for FedEx U.S. and Canada, whereas Martin acts as the vice chairman of the FedEx Corp. board of directors.

The duo will take on their new responsibilities when FedEx separates from FedEx Freight, an event scheduled for June 2026.

I can’t imagine finding two people who possess greater understanding or dedication towards the sustained prosperity of the FedEx Freight business than John Smith and Brad Martin," stated Raj Subramaniam, President and CEO of FedEx Corp. "Jointly, they bring a proven history and skill set necessary to adeptly guide this fresh and thrilling era for the standalone FedEx Freight entity.

FedEx states that the division of the company will enable "more personalized operational implementation as well as targeted investments and capital distribution approaches to better address the distinct and changing requirements of both international package delivery and less-than-truckload markets."
