BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC The Magic City, renowned for its connection to iron and steel manufacturing, now has a new exhibition that is examining this heritage up close—literally!
Whether you believe it or not, items that individuals encounter daily might be regarded as art when viewed through an appropriate perspective.
Raymond Thompson from the nearby engineering firm Vista Engineering provided WBRC an intimate view of a new exhibition set to launch at Sloss Furnaces over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
It is named the Symphony of Elements: The Art and Science of Metals.
It combines artistic elements with scientific principles and features close-up visuals of various metals.
Apart from their striking hues and captivating patterns, the pictures aid specialists in pinpointing the drawbacks and advantages of these substances.
Thompson highlighted that this offers educational chances for people of all ages, particularly children who have an interest in pursuing a career in STEM fields.
“Education often emphasizes STEM programs—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics,” Thompson stated. “These initiatives target students from early childhood right up until they reach middle school and high school years. Honestly, even now, looking at these topics makes me feel like a kid again. I get thrilled and engaged every time I explore them because there’s always something novel to discover. Cultivating such enthusiasm for both nature and scientific concepts strikes me as crucial.”
This exhibit opens this weekend and runs through August. Thompson said it is completely free.
