Workers Strike Deal to Avert Shutdown at Electric Boat in Groton

Groton, CT (WFSB) - Workers from General Dynamics have come to a preliminary understanding with Electric Boat on Sunday.

Nearly 2,400 employees had vowed to walk off the job. If no deal was achieved by midnight.

Electric Boat along with the Marine Draftsmen’s Association issued a joint statement.

Electric Boat has tentatively agreed with the Marine Draftsmen’s Association (MDA) on a five-year contract. Both negotiating teams put significant effort into identifying shared goals which led to improvements in wages and benefits, enhancing the overall well-being of the employees. These changes ensure fairness and equity while acknowledging the crucial contribution of MDA members in building submarines for the U.S. Navy.

The MDA will now submit the agreement to their members and inform them about the upcoming ratification vote.

We applaud the negotiation teams for their remarkable efforts and dedication to achieving excellence in service of our common vital mission during this crucial period for our nation.

Over multiple weeks, employees insisted on improved salaries, secure retirements, and what they termed as "equitable acknowledgment" of their efforts.

The union representatives have not detailed the agreements reached, but they stated that a strike will not take place.

The accord still required worker approval through voting, yet the union mentioned that staff members showed up for their jobs on Monday morning.
